Dec 25, 4 0 10, 1. Since yesterday it has started to display vertical lines on the screen. The pattern changes when you restart the tv. But the white ribbon stays in its place.
I called the lg customer care and they sent a technician. He opened the tv and cleared carbon from the connecing ribbons but it didn't help. He then suggested for the complete panel replacement which is very expressive. I searched online and most pointed either towards bad ribbon connections or a bad t-con board. When horizontal or vertical lines appear on the TV screen, identify the root cause by testing the TV picture, checking cable connections, and verifying external devices are working properly.

This will help determine if the issue is with software or hardware. Note: You will be prompted for the TV's password. If you have not setup a password, the default will either be 0,0,0,0 or 1,2,3,4. Since some or most channels come in clear, the issue is not likely related to the TV's hardware or software.
If the signal is weak, check the alignment of your antenna. Sometimes a slight shift can clear up poor signal issues. If the signal is strong, that channel may be experiencing technical difficulties from the broadcast location. Note: There may be frequency related settings on the antenna that can be adjusted to improve its' performance.
Otherwise, you may consider replacing the antenna. Also, try to unplug the satellite receiver to clear its' memory, then plug it back in and try again. Poor quality on some channels may be an issue with the cable box's software, or the broadcast provider's signal.Lil shan

This is a common issue with many TVs. Vertical colored lines usually show on a TV screen when the T-Con board is not working properly. Many times this can simply be caused from wiring that is not securely fastened. Other times the T-Con Board itself may be faulty and need to be replaced. A loose wire or bad T-Con board is explained below.
See here for info on how to diagnose and fix a cracked TV screen. When a TV is showing vertical colored lines, a loose wire cable in the TV might be the cause. This is a sign that a cable is loose or the T-Con board is faulty. If so, you may simply have a loose wiring cable.
This is not a permanent solution, but may prevent the vertical colored lines from showing temporarily. To fix this permanently, you need to troubleshoot the issue and find out which wiring harness may be loose, faulty or damaged.
If you suspect a loose cable within your TV, you will need to open up the TV and secure the cable and check the T-Con board. KS Vertical Lines in all inputs. The intensity of the vertical lines changes with the RGB signals and very prominent on white video signal as shown below:. Since the vertical lines are not in the static location and always changing with the video display so, it is unlikely the LCD panel is at fault.
The possible cause could be the main board, T-con board or both. I performed a grey scale test with the same procedure as in my earlier article on gamma distortion. There is no gamma distortion or noise on the grey scale but RGB vertical lines are being superimposed on it see photo 1. The intensity of the vertical lines changes with the contrast level as well. I suspected the gamma IC is faulty although it displayed no gamma distortion. After changing the this IC there is a remarkable improvement on the video quality except for some fine vertical lines still visible only at high contrast level.
As I have suspected earlier the main board is also contributing to the problem. Changing the main board will be ideal but may not be worthwhile as the main board is not cheap. By reducing the sub-contrast level and the RGB gain by a certain value in the service mode, the vertical lines are not visible and the reduction in gain and contrast level have not change the video quality significantly as shown below.
The customer is very happy and satisfied with the end result as the repair cost does not burnt a hole in his pocket. The back of the IC is soldered to the board as well which make it more difficult to remove.
After carefully removed the IC without damaging the board, I have a hard time trying to re-align the position of the new IC as the solder pads are underneath and difficult to view from the edges. After a few soldering attempts I managed to re-soldered it. He has more than 40 years of experience in the consumer product manufacturing. TV Has Different Color Vertical Lines On Screen – How To Fix?
Well done with nice photos and explanation. Sometimes we must make compromise between price and repair results. This was worth the repair I think. My best regards. Humphrey Kimathi. Excellent work SK Wong, A satisfied customer will always come back and refer others too, Again thanks for keeping the repair cost low in order not to burn a hole in his pocket. Regards Humphrey - Kenya. Hi SK So maybe the iMAC LCD panel includes the electronics and replacing the panel coincidentally replaces the defective chip.
QFP-packaged ICs are indeed horrible. Especially when they are that small. I have watched a video by Shop Jimmy lately on Youtube. This guy knows how to do it. I think the key is to use just the right amount of solder paste for the bottom pad so that the chip does not float too high on top of the molten solder. It should just sit tight enough to let the contacts take on solder via the ironwhich is applied with a lot of flux gel.
